FLORIDA SENATE BLESSES CRACKDOWN ON ONLINE MUGSHOT COMPANIES
Updated: Jul 13
The bill now awaits house consideration.
Florida is pushing for new laws that would tighten the regulations on online mugshot companies. The bill would make it so that mugshot publishers who do not remove a mugshot within 10 days of written notice may be subject to $1,000 fines per day.
According to staff analysis at FloridaPolitics.com, 77% of employers enter potential employee names into search engines before making a hiring decision. This new law would stand as an incentive for online mugshot posting companies to move in a swift manner to remain in compliance with Florida law and avoid costly penalties.
This bill paves the way for Florida residents to have their fair chance at gainful employment and avoid the emotional turmoil of trying to find a job with looming mugshot photos posted online by predatory companies.
